Doodarshan Kendra, Thiruvananthapuram has done a major facelift to its programmes  and is coming out with a fresh package of programmes from 22nd December 2014 in commemoration of its 30th years of excellence in telecasting, as the first television channel in Kerala.

The package designed with a true commitment to public service broadcasting is a balanced diet of fresh serials, musicals, reality shows, developmental initiatives, social reality show, classic cinema, window to Indian literature, classical art forms, educational and science programmes and interactive shows, as detailed below:

Megha Ragam

The up-close chat show, ‘Megha Ragam’,  will see the makers of some of the most-loved songs of Malayalam cinema get candid about their creations. To pep up the conversations, front line singers will render hit numbers composed by the featured music director or lyricist.


A free-wheeling chat show with the who’s who of Kerala’s cultural mosaic. The conversations will also hold up a mirror to the evolving socio-cultural scenario, with representative personalities from all walks of life on board. 


True to its pioneering status as the national broadcaster, DD Malayalam will provide viewers with a platform to communicate with policy makers on a one-on-one basis. The public can raise queries and seek redress to grievances through this unique programme.  


  Cinema Weekly 

Cinema Weekly and Kerala Talkies – are   weekly programmes  chronicling of the box office and  check out what is ticking on the charts – songs, films, actors, and more. With plenty of trailers and songs from upcoming releases, Cinema Weekly and Kerala Talkies promise to keep the mood upbeat for movie buffs.

This is apart from the weekly films on Sundays and Saturdays.

 Krishi Darsan

In solidarity with the dwindling but steadfast agrarian populace of Kerala, DD Malayalam airs Krishi Darsan – a platform to share traditional wisdom and new-age practices.  

The Kendra also organized the following events:

I. Agriculture Seminar on ‘Application of Technology and Knowledge Transfer’

The Kendra organized an interactive programme on  ‘Application of Technology and Knowledge Transfer on 05-08-2014  at the Central Auditorium of Kerala Agriculture University, Vellanikkara, Thrissur. Experts in agriculture engineering, Scientists from research stations,  Universities, Utility Departments Financial Institutions, etc., participated.  The programme was recorded and telecast as a series in Krishidarshan slot. 

II. Farmer Innovations in Family Farming – Farmer Scientists’ Summit

Commemorating international year of Family farming ,our Kendra organized a novel  meet of ‘scientist- farmers’, who brought out innovations and new concepts in agriculture engineering, farm machinery and introduced  innovative practices in crop protection, crop utilization and other farming activities on 10.12.2014.  The innovators where given opportunity to present their technologies, new ideas, concepts  etc with visual support ,before a panel of experts.   They also interacted with selected farmers. The expert panel evaluated their technologies, concepts and commented on them.  The event   drew wide attention. The programme has been scheduled for telecast from 15th December onwards. 

Business Matters

 To stay current on commerce and trade, viewers can tune into our programme  Business Matters.

 Rhythm of Cookery

DD Malayalam’s Rhythm of Cookery adds that extra bit of flavor to the viewer’s  cuisine with a tip or two from.

A unique ensemble of stage shows conducted around the state, ‘Kazcha’, ‘Y4Youthand Njan Gandharvanhelp audience relive their favourite moments of live performances. The segment   also includes stage shows of classical and folk arts.

Then there are TV adaptations of classic Malayalam plays, extensive rendering of Kathakali, regular slots for classical music and classical dance, documentation of folk performances,  career guidance shows, science documentaries, ‘Paithrukam’, series on Mohiniyattom, Gandhi Darshan etc.

Southern Regional Satellite Network (SRSN) programme showcases the best in music and dance from South India.

There are also regular contributions to National programmes of music and dance.

In coordination with State Institute of Educational Technology, Doordarshan telecasts educational programmes for students at 6. 30 am on all weekdays.

In coordination with the Department of Public Relations  of the state government, t we have ‘Sutharyakeralam’,  ‘Priyakeralam’ and ‘Navakeralam’ interactive shows that bring people close to the process of governance.

Farm information bureau produces ‘Noorumeni’ and Kerala State Electricity Board produces ‘Spandanam’ for telecast in DD Malayalam.

DD News

The DD News, from its vantage point as the national broadcaster, seeks to deliver the unbiased and unalloyed version of happenings from around the world. Anchored to accuracy and powered by objectivity, DD News holds pride of place as the most-viewed news show in the country. 

Samvadam’ the weekly live debate gives a sense of balance to current issues in society.


Science Series:

In collaboration with the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment,  we are launching a new programme to show case the efforts made by the scientific institutions in solving social issues.


DD Malayalam telecasts live almost all major cultural and  religious festivals of Kerala in the regional, national and DD Bharati/DD India channels. This includes Nehru Trophy Boat Race, Thrissur  Pooram,  Aranmula Boat Race, Sabarimala Makaravilakku Maholsavam, Attukal Pongala, Mannarassala Ayilyam Maholsavam, etc.

The Kendra has covered the 16-day Chembai Music Festival, 2014 from 17th November – 2nd December, 2014 held at Guruvayoor Temple in connection with the Ekadashi Festival wherein top grade Carnatic Musicians of South India participate on a day-to-day basis.  The festival which culminates  with the group rendering of Pancharatna Keertanas by well known Carnatic musicians and music lovers, was covered live across all South Indian States on 2nd December, 2014.     We have produced software for 52 hours from the entire programme. 

We have organized a mega event in Thiruvananthapuram, titled ‘Pranaya Mazha’ in commemoration of its 30th years of excellence in telecasting.  This Special Invited Audience Show  was arranged on 6th and 7th December, 2014 at Nishagandhi Stadium. The first edition of the show a  Musical Evening, witnessed participation of prominent playback singers of Malayalam Film Industry including                          G. Venugopal, Madhu Balakrishnan, Unni Menon, Sudeep Kumar, Sitara, Mridula Warrier, etc.. The second in the series a ‘Dance Evening’ showcased dance,  mimics show  and comedy skits by well known artists of the State, anchored by Ramesh Pisharady.  The programme was  well received  by the public on both the days and lauded by the press.
